Farm Tour
Our redclaw crayfish farm is built alongside a river, only a few hundred meters away from a
natural freshwater source. With such an abundant supply of good quality freshwater, the farm operates
its pools and ponds on a continuously running water system to optimize the growth and quality of
the redclaws. Natural conservation is achieved all around the site by surrounding it with large
areas of gardens, planted with a variety of plants and trees.
Water Stock Pool
The water stock pool is a 12 sided indoor pool lined with ceramics that can hold up to 1,000 m3 of water (that is roughly 1,000,000 litres of water). It is built inside a building to prevent the
water parameters from being affected by things such as rain or pollutants. Using gravity,
this pool supplies water continuously to the hatchery facilities.
Hatchery
The hatchery operates hundreds of pools which are usually full of crayfish of all sizes from the large broodstocks down to the newly hatched crayfish.
Using water taken straight from a natural freshwater source, our crayfish started off in an
environment free from pollutants such as industrial runoff and chemicals, acid rain and household waste.
Grow Out Ponds
All our ponds are monosex ponds allowing us to
obtain an optimal growth rate from our redclaws. The ponds utilize water straight from the river that
runs within the farm area ensuring that fresh water is available all year round even throughout the
dry season
Harvesting and Shipping
The crayfish are usually harvested using the flow-trap method to minimize the amount of time
they are out of the water. After they are harvested from the grow-out ponds, they are taken to the
shipping area where they are graded, packed and loaded for transport.
